Belle is my own character. She is a half human, half white-wolf demon who has red eyes. In this story she arrives in the Feudal era to discover that Sesshomaru has been injured.

Human for a Day

I returned to the feudal era late that night. I searched for Sesshomaru, Rin and Jaken. I decided since it was still night to change in to my full form. Thanks to my red eyes I was able to see clearly. After walking for an hour or more my nose picked up the scent of fresh blood. ‘I recognize this blood.’

I hurried towards the scent. In a clearing I found Rin sitting near an old oak tree, crying. She looked up to see who had come near and saw me. She ran to me and latched on to my fur. “Lord Sesshomaru is near the river. He has been injured and he won’t wake up. I’m scared that he’s dead; Jaken is missing.” I motioned for her to get on my back and we went to the river.

There he was, lying against a huge tree near the edge of the river bank. Rin got off me and sat nearby. I slowly crept up to him. I nudged him with my nose. His eyes opened and he snarled at me. “Calm down. It’s just me.”

He appeared to not recognize who I was at first so I changed back in to my human self. “Rin.” She came bounding over to me. I think she was apprehensive about going to her friend. “See. He’s alright. He was just sleeping.” Rin looked at her lord.

“Rin, you worried about me?” Nodding yes, she hugged him tightly. “I was so worried Lord Sesshomaru. You were bleeding and you didn’t wake up. I thought you had died.” She was sobbing now. He hugged her back. “As you can see, I’m fine Rin.” She looked up and he wiped away a few tears.

“What happened?” Before he could answer, Rin piped up, “Milord went looking for Naraku but ran into Inuyasha instead.”

Sesshomaru growled at the thought of losing to his half-brother once again. “I see. Maybe someday you’ll learn that we half demons aren’t as weak as you think we are.” After that I helped him stand up. He was indeed very weak from his fight. I spoke to him telepathically.

‘You’re weak.’

‘My vision is slightly blurry and my head aches.’ He stumbled a bit as we walked. “Easy.”

I changed back into my full form. My shoulder blade came to his waist. ‘As weak as you are I’m taking you to Kaede. Get on my back.’ Although he hated going to that woman’s village knowing that Inuyasha would be there; he climbed onto my back with Rin sitting in front of him. When they were settled I took off into the forest as fast as I could.

A few hours after dawn we arrived in the village. I hurried straight to Kaede’s hut. Thankfully, she was there. “Oh my. What is going on here?” She looked at Sesshomaru and Rin. I changed back and spoke to her, “Lady Kaede, Sesshomaru is injured and weak. Can you see what’s wrong?” I supported him by his waist and his right arm. Rin looked on at her friend. “Bring him inside. I’ll have a look at ye.” We hobbled in to the hut.

“Sesshomaru, I need you to lie down and remove your armor and your shirt.” He looked at me. “You heard her. Take off your shirt and armor.” He let out a long sigh. He sat down and removed his shirt. He then laid down on the futon and waited for Kaede to examine him.

“Let me take a look here. How did these wounds occur?” Sesshomaru didn’t respond. “He and Inuyasha got into it again.” Kaede just nodded and went back to tending the wounds. He had a gash on his shoulder, a few bruised ribs and various other cuts, scrapes and bruises on and around his body. He winced as his shoulder was being stitched. Nobody noticed other than me. To the Rin and Kaede he had merely blinked.

‘I saw that.’ He glanced at me. ‘Humph.’

“Alright, that should do it. The medicine I’ve given you will numb your body to allow it to heal. Also during this time you will be human.” Not pleased by this news, he snarled at her.

“Old woman, how long will I be this way?” I growled my disapproval.

“The effects should wear off in 8-10 hours. You will need to rest and not move. I will take Rin to gather herbs in the forest.” She stood up and Rin followed her out of the hut.

I moved next to Sesshomaru as he lay there on the futon. “You know, being human isn’t as bad as you think it is. You’re just not as strong as you normally are.” Again, he snarled. “Hey! By sundown you’ll be a full fledged demon. So stop complaining. Come on, we are going for a walk.”

“I can’t move you idiot. My body is numb.”

“Technically this is true. But I’m going to speed your healing process.” I knelt in front of him and placed my hands on his chest. Closing my eyes I took a deep breath. My hands emitted a bright blue light. I was using all my energy to heal him. When I was done I was just a regular human with no demonic or spiritual powers.

“How do you feel now?” He pushed himself up and was relieved to find that he was no longer in any pain. All his wounds were gone and healed. “Better but I’m still human.” “Even I cannot undo that one. You have to wait until the medicine wears off.” I became really dizzy and started to fall. I was shocked when he caught me. “Why?” “I can’t stand to see a proud demon pout. It doesn’t look good on you.” We just looked at each other before I regained my composure and helped him to stand up. He was wobbly on his feet.

“Easy there. Not so fast.”

“I don’t like being human. I feel quite disoriented.”

“You’ll get used to it. I’m human for now as well. I used up my demonic power healing you. I’m used to being this way. I am quite powerful as a human you know.”

“Do, do you have enough power left to transform yourself?”

“I might.”

Closing my eyes, I took a deep, calming breath. I felt that I had just enough to transform but I would not be able to change back until my strength returned. When I opened my eyes I was a wolf again.

‘Better?’

“Yes.”

‘Why did you want me to change?’ I was puzzled by his request.

“I want to know what it is like to walk with you around the village as I am right now. I see how the villagers look at you. They hold no fear or hatred. They accept you as their equal. They respect you it seems also. How is that possible?”

‘I earned their trust and respect. One day I was sleeping under a tree when some bandits attacked the village. I was unaware of what was happening until I noticed that some of the women and children had huddled nearby for safety. I heard angry shouts from the bandits ordering the women to come to him. The leader had sent his minions towards me to retrieve the women. I stood to protect them. The bandits were afraid of me. I was like nothing they had ever seen before. They attacked me but I killed them. The leader was the only one left. He asked who dared to kill off his men. By then I had turned back into my half demon self.

“I do. I demand that you leave this village at once and never return if you wish to live.” He gawked at me. Here I was, a mere woman, ordering him around. “And what will you do if I don’t…half demon?”

“Leave, if you wish to live.”

He laughed at me. I guess he thought I was bluffing. I didn’t want to kill him if I didn’t have to. I decided to change back. He gaped in awe of me.

“Woman, you are a beautiful creature. From now on you belong to me as my pet.” I snorted my reply. I stood my ground. I snarled and growled at this man. I decided to scare him away instead of killing him. I attacked his horse and his body. He was powerless to stop me. He ran out of town. I followed him until I was sure that he would never come back. Walking back I noticed that the people of the village weren’t running away from me. The children were coming up to me and petting me. They weren’t afraid anymore. Since then I’ve been welcome here. I protect the people and in return I’m fed and sheltered. Mostly I stay with Kaede.’

He seemed intrigued by what I had said. “Humans are still ignorant beings towards demons. Sooner or later, they will turn on you. You will no longer be welcome here. They will attack you and try to kill you.” I laughed at his words.

‘I doubt it. These people have seen me at my absolute worst. Still, they accept me here as one of their own. Now quit worrying.’ I dragged him in to town. Some of the villagers looked on at us. They knew of the great demon lord Sesshomaru but were surprised to see him as he was. They seemed unafraid of him and went back to their chores. “Why are they not afraid?” he asked. ‘You do not come off as a threat. They trust me enough to believe that I won’t allow any dangerous demons near the village.’ Confusion crossed his face. ‘I trust you and the villagers see that.’ “You trust me?” ‘Don’t act so surprised.’

The village was swarming with activity that day. It was planting season and everyone was in a rush to get the fields ready for planting. During our walk we came across Rin and Kaede gathering herbs.

“Lord Sesshomaru, you’re alright.” She ran and hugged him around the legs. “I’m so happy that you’re okay. I was so worried about you.” He kneeled down and hugged her properly. “Thank you, Rin.” Kaede and I watched as Sesshomaru and Rin sat on the forest floor together. Rin spoke of all that she had learned that day. Sesshomaru listened to her patiently. “He should be demon again by sundown.” Kaede headed back to her hut while the 3 of us stayed out in the forest the rest of the day. Rin had fallen asleep in Sesshomaru’s arms. ‘You know, if any one else saw you two together they would get the impression that you were father and daughter.’ He looked at me. “Don’t be silly.”

‘I kinda like you as a human but I miss the regular you.’ He looked at me.

Before he could speak he was engulfed by a bright light. His eyes turned red. The stripes on his face returned. His fingernails grew into claws and his fangs had also returned. He was a full-fledged taiyoukai once again. The day had gone by so fast that I failed to realize what time it was. The light that engulfed him had left.

‘Welcome back. How do you feel?’ He looked himself over and looked down at the sleeping child in his arms. ‘Don’t wake her. Let her sleep the rest of the night. She’s been so worried about you.’ “Jaken?”

It hit me at that time that none of us had seen or heard from the toad the entire time. ‘Not here. Haven’t seem him the whole time you’ve been injured.’ He stood, picking up Rin and holding her close. She stirred slightly but didn’t wake up. Sesshomaru started walking away. He rubbed my ears and continued walking. “Aren’t you coming along?” ‘Eh, sure. You need somebody to watch Rin while you kill Jaken, after we find him that is.’
