Tamalyn shook her head, "I based my weather predictions on my father. He said it would be a few days of still, but you know weather" she shrugged, "it does what it wants. As to the defendy things" she said shaking her head, "I am sure that we would all enjoy the exercise and practice." She looked over to Oldwine at the far end of the table, "would you care to instruct my friends and I in some self defense" she asked, "maybe some hand to hand, knife and for the adventurous, perhaps sword training? I thought it would pass the winter months and give us all something to do" she looked at her other friends, both make and female. Then she returned her gaze to Oldwine to see what his answer was.

"I'm sure we can arrange something, just let me check on surgeon's stores first," Oldwine replied before returning his attention to the large piece of beef before him.

"He's joking, isn't he?" Kirsie asked.

"No" Tamalyn said shaking her head, "it isn't that he expects something to happen" she added, "but he would be remiss if he wasn't thinking of everybodys safety. His included" Tamalyn shrugged. "He probably also said that so those who were scared by the thought of being hurt could bow out gracefully. You don't have to do this" she added, "no one would think less of you. I think you would really enjoy it Kirsie, it can be very enjoyable. Most of the women in Selnendrin have some sort of training in self defense. Stormy Tigre, Franchesca Bragg, and my mother are all women of fame here. Why? Well, in part it is because of their skills with weapons. Here, a woman who can take on a man in combat and win" Tamalyn smiled, "they are infamous. It is something I have thought a lot about. There are no woman in the military, though the leaders of the country are all military. It means that women can never achieve any standing of her own, unless she can get into the ultimate boys club. How would she do that? She would train and train and train until she could prove her value beyond a shadow of a doubt." She paused, "I was not meaning you should do that. I was thinking of a school for womans defense, something small private and selective. At least until there was a few woman who could prove they could fight as well as a man. I have yet to mention this to anyone, but I think that is one of the things I want to address at the tea."

"That's a lot to pour over us at once," Helda smiled faintly.  "Lets see if any of us survive before we start looking to widen your agenda."

Tamalyn nodded, "like I said, at this point I am only considering it. As for surviving, of course we will. That isn't the question, the question is what changes will this rebellion bring? No matter which side succeeds, there are going to be changes made. It is inevitable, the rebellion came because people want change. Besides, as I understand it the current government was set in place as a sort of stop gap. People needed things to be similar to how things were before that rebellion. This rebellion will move the country to their next level of government. What that is, well only time will tell."

"Its whatever a bunch of grumpy old men make of it," Helda sighed.  "Maybe we women will have to do a revolution of our own later."

Tamalyn shook her head, one day they want women to have more rights the next they are willing to wait around for it. "I am not certain that a revolution would be as effective as proving our worth and getting noticed for succeeding where men think we can not. We will see what the current revolution brings us." Tamalyn turned her attention to her food. Finally desert was brought in, she smiled and dished herself a portion. She tried to think of something to say to change the subject. "Morale in town seems to be running pretty high, I was pleased to see that" she said.

Tamalyn made it through dinner with very little more discussion. After dinner she returned to her room and changed into her painting nightgown. She went down to the studio and started working on the clay figurines. She let her mind wander around town looking for threats or pockets of distention.

Waiting was becoming harder and harder, but she could see the light marking the end. If things kept going the way they were the loyalists would reestablish order before spring came.

She watched and sculpted and waited.

The city, over the next few days, was oddly quiet.  It was hard to say how much of it was due to the snows and how much because of the arrests.  They were snowballing now as those arrested talked and named others and slowly the cells filled with rebels.

Tamalyn was quiet as well, she worked, painted and sculpted to pass the time. One day she went upstairs to see her dresser.

"Good morning" she said greeting the handsome man. "I came to see what new things you may have designed for me. At some point, when the rebels finally surrender, the city will begin having celebratory balls and I want to be ready for them. Have you been working on any ballgowns?" She enquired looking around at his most recent works.

He smiled and showed her a few selections that ranged from positively dowdy to pushing the very edge of the limits she'd given him.  "Something like these?"

She nodded, "yes, some of these will work very well" she agreed looking them over closely. "I also thought of a lace dress with a nude under dress that would match my skintone" she suggested. "It might appear more daring than it is." She looked through all the things he had been working on. "You have been busy" she said pleased, "I am pleased that you are able to work with little direction on my part" she added to compliment him.

Tamalyn started to answer, then stopped. She began again and stopped a second time. Then she smiled, "a white lace shift, similar to my nightgowns. But finer, something that screams innocence, but has an alluring presence. Does that help?"

"Flatterer" she said, "I see right through that" she said with her serious teasing. "I am sure that most here would not think it is stylish. But, I dress for me and I have found that the innocent look appeals to my sense of style. Besides, I know a few people who will like it." After that she did leave him to his work. She returned downstairs and found Breecher. "Let's go take a ride around the district. I am feeling a bit stir crazy."

"Weather is neither here nor there to me" Tamalyn shrugged. "Though you should probably change into you're winter gear. I don't want you to get sick" she added thoughtfully.

Tamalyn was dressed in black wool trousers and a warm blouse of cream with a flannel layer beneath. Her hair was loose, but she was tieing a black ribbon around it to form a low pony tail.

Oldwine and Breecher were dressed in oddly smudged while, warm and heavily armed.  As always.  Neither seemed particularly concerned, but as alert as she'd ever seen them.

Tamalyn slipped on a jacket that matched her trousers and they headed off into the streets. She had no agenda for her foray, other than to get some fresh air. But she did bring some of her art for the shop. She led the way through the streets to the shop. After dropping off her art, she headed to the newspaper offices. She found Teela, "so tell me what you have heard about how things are going for the rebels" she asked the manager of the broadsheets.

The South seems to be hammered down, and here in the city it looks like the loyalists have captured most of the ringleaders, the rest seem to have died in the fighting.  They are fairly devastated, rumor has it many of the lower leaders are asking for terms."

"What is the overall feelings of the people in the country? Are they feeling positive or negative responses? I think the people in this district have hope and are feeling quite confident. Would you say the same is true throughout the city and country?" Tamalyn had not gotten any outside information about the citizens and she did wonder.

"Well, whatever support that the rebels had seems to be waning.  Losing is one thing, but they were made to look like bumbling fools," she shrugged.  "Many suspect that the government had them fairly well pinned down before they started."
